Koi Suru Fortune Cookies Video Making

Last Saturday (July 27th) was one of the shooting days for JKT48’s upcoming single, “Koi Suru Fortune Cookies” (let’s keep it short as ‘KFC’). On that day, fans were welcomed to participate in dancing together with the members.

Invitations were originally only send to JKT48 official fan clubs via email, saying that the video shooting would be divided to 4 sessions, each with a different location. Fans able to apply to any of the sessions. On Friday night, almost midnight, the confirmation letter was sent out, along with the location of the shooting’s venue.

The first session took place outside of the JKT48 Theater at FX Sudirman. The second session took place inside theater, the third session was at Blok S, and the final session was in Sentral Senayan, next to Plaza Senayan.

I only came for the first and second sessions, so this field report will only cover those sessions.

As instructed, I came to FX around 7:30 AM. Fans were coming and we had almost 40 people by 8:00 AM. We were instructed to come inside the theater. One of JKT48’s choreographer, Iin, tutored us the KFC’s dance, step by step. Most of us had not learned the dance before, including me.

I thought at first, we were only tutored for the song’s riff. Well, I found out that we had actually practiced for the entire 4 minutes song. Believe it or not, we could master the choreography in just one hour. The dance moves, practically, are not too hard and Iin knew how to tutor dance, even for us – first timers. We were tutored using the AKB48’s song version.

I saw several members: Beby, Ayana and Della, peeking behind the stage’s curtain. They were laughing seeing us doing the training.

The first session of shooting took place at 10:00 AM, after the theater has its electricity turned on by FX management. We waited almost an hour between the training and the production shooting in theater’s lobby, until JKT48’s neon sign lit up.

Iin asked us to do another exercise. This time, the song played was the JKT48 version.

Members then started coming outside of theater. They wore blue and gold seifukus. These are the current senbatsu of KFC:
Team J: Haruka (center), Melody, Nabilah, Ve, Akicha, Rena, Kinal, Sonia, Ayana and Shania.
Team KIII: Naomi, Rona, Yupi, Ikha and Della.

They introduced themselves to us as ‘JKT48’, and fans spontaneously said, “We are OFC!” Then Kinal thanked us for coming and joining the video production.

We did two takes of the whole song parts, before the first session was considered finish.

The second session took place inside the theater. Girls were welcomed to enter first, and the guys followed next. The JKT48 members performance didn’t take place on the stage, but in front of the FOH, with the fans were circling behind them. During this session, there were hundreds of fans coming and doing the dance together.

I didn’t come for the third and fourth session since I had other things to attend to. From what I heard, the number of fans kept on growing with each session. There were more than 150 people who ended up coming to the fourth session.

It was a new and exciting experience for me as a fan. Let’s hope there are more like this in the JKT48 fandom in the near future.
