Jadilah Nekad IV Report : Flying Get Handshake Festival
The moment I awaits for in every year has come, the moment where we could meet and sharing our experiences in the handshake event! This time, in the Jadilah Nekad program, we’ve got a total of seven guests that came over to Indonesia to meet the girls as well as fellow fans. So without further ado, my report for both Jadilah Nekad IV and the Flying Get Handshake Festival.
May 17th, 2014
I met all the participants for this program at Saturday, to have some fans exchange as well as having some great fun. This time, we’ve got an increase in participants : Mt. Joss, Da-Chi, CleaningStaff, Mr. Yokohama, and our newest participant, Mr. TwinTail, a long time and respected AKB48 fans who dived into JKT48 fandom in February 2014 with Yupi as his JKT48 oshi. Well, of course there’s Japarta and RHKilis too who both came from faraway country.
I applied for a theater seat but haven’t got any winning emails so I just sat and enjoyed my cup of tea while the rest of the entourage watched KIII rocked the theater. It wasn’t until the next day that I noticed that I’ve got the verification email for the theater seat….fml.
Anyway, after the theater show, we decided to continue on with our daily dosage of Karaoke for an hour. I really do hope that F(X) got some more interesting group activity area as we did all these karaoke a little bit too much now. I mean, we did it in every single Jadilah Nekad event . And I’m actually afraid that karaoke night might bored some of our regular participants as well.
I’m thinking that at the next event, perhaps a late night barbecue at my front yard might sparks things a little bit more as an alternative group activity. Of course, the participants will spend their night together at my house instead of the hotel.
One thing to note is that their theater watching experience this time is totally ruined by a celebration of a certain expatriate fan 100th attendance. They didn’t came from faraway places just to listen to an encore call that is clearly NOT intended to the members but instead, to a fan who clearly tweeted that he expect people to celebrate it (or worse, arranged it). A nightmare, as Da-Chi recalled. I really feel sorry for them, even the mild-mannered Japarta felt extremely irritated that night.
Oh, so what about Mr. TwinTail impression of KIII show? He said that among all of the (KIII) shows he watched in his visit this time, one of them is one of the best theater show he ever saw. It’s in his ranking somewhere up top along with some of the Japan 48’s shows. I dunno which show was that, but it was one with Acha in it since he praised Acha for her goosebumps-inducing performance.
May 18th, 2014 – Flying Get Handshake Festival
Woke up early to go to Balai Kartini. Well, I don’t want to queue for too long to exchange the CD Invoice(s) with the tickets, so I decided to came a little bit too early. Arrived at Balai Kartini at around 8:30 AM and finds that they still not open the door to the ticketing exchange booth yet
Waited for around 30 minutes and Japarta as well as the rest of the entourage came. We decided to visit the same restaurant that we used as the HQ from the last Managu Handshake Event once again. And thus, we established our HQ for this handshake event pretty easily.
After we established our HQ, I decided to exchange the tickets. Pretty crowded, but still nice with the air conditioner -still- working well. Once I’m done, I went back to the HQ and gave all the tickets to Japarta which then proceed to sort out the tickets to our participants.
I’ve got mine for the 7th session, so I decided to wait at the HQ while watching our guests shared some joy with local fans by exchanging many things, such as photos and many kind of souvenirs. And while waiting, Mr. Bangkok, who is also one of the participants, came directly from Thailand to join us along with one of his friend, Shanito.
Alas, we’ve got several Dhike’s tickets unused since another friend of ours, who came from Osaka, couldn’t joined us this time with reason unknown. Well she did came to the event, but nowhere to be found even after I message her via Twitter. So me and Japarta decided to split the unused tickets between us.
Our local friends and contributors; such as Asep, RedRanger, Febry, Mario, Pitra, Djt, Richard, Ryand, Adit, Gala, Pipu, Enrico and many others also joined us at the HQ. Too bad AnakDekan (Who is now also a contributor for AKB48WrapUp, yay, congrats Fit!) and Haddad can’t join us this time.
Handshake Impression
For conversation details from our guests, I’ll leave it later for Japarta’s combination report with our peers. I’ll give an outline to what happened in between the handshake event.
Japarta as usual did his share with Rica and Sendy and oh boy, he looks happy after that. Mr. Yokohama himself decided to got with a blue Sendy’s clothing for his handshake session, but almost immediately changed to something else for his special session with Natsuko aka Natalia. Oh and if you are wondering who gave Natalia that well-known nickname, it was Mr. Yokohama. A combination of Natalia and Atsuko Maeda, with its own Kanji.
CleaningStaff was back with a smile on his face saying that Nabilah remembers his name and ended up sitting quietly and staring deeply to the empty space
Mt. Joss as well was happy with his encounter with Ve. While Da-Chi…well, let’s say he cried both in the booth and at the HQ . I’m serious here, he cried for a very touching moment that I simply can not disclose in this report for various reasons. All that I can say is: Thank you Ve, for making two of my best friends experiencing the moment of their life.
Oh before we continue on, I really like Ve’s dress at the handshake event. That black dress with flowers pattern. It is a really simple dress, yet makes you feels so much at home, and..uh..I dunno, it feels like it was flowing with care and love. Nice choice there.
*I don’t know where the picture is originated from, so credits to the first uploader of the picture.
RHKilis got a chance to speak in English with Lidya, who managed to surprise him at how good her English is. She spoke in a grammatically correct sentences without any visible accent at all. Her hobby of watching American drama series really helped in her pronunciation. Hearing the praise coming from someone hailed from Minnesota, I have no doubt about Lidya’s English conversational ability. Truly a new finding in this fandom.
Mr. Bangkok himself was unavailable for any questioning since he just slumped over to his seat once we asked him about Beby . The damage of “Doki Doki Attack” by Beby had struck both Mr. Bangkok and RHKilis right after their session with her.
Mr. TwinTail himself, after unable to concentrate after his session with Yupi, was able to get more dosage of concentration-breaker after his session with Acha. Before he can even praised Acha for her performance, Acha already throws a huge praise for Mr. TwinTail furicopy (Copying the members hand movement) skill in a theater show he attended. It really surprises Mr. TwinTail that Acha not only remembers him for doing a furicopy at the show, but that she even paid extra attention to the fans in the dark condition of the theater, in which she even remembers their faces!
My Handshake
This part is my personal experience. So yeah, if you hate long boring story, skip this part since it will be veery long
Got a chance for a handshake with Sisil. She wore a black dress that day. She was very nice and when I told her that I will write my handshake experience in JKT48Stuff, she replied almost instantly -without even waiting for me explaining what Stuff’s really is, and whether if she’s okay with that or not- that she really loves the contents of the website, albeit needing some help in translating the contents into Indonesian as she is not that good in English. An honest and straightforward kid, I do think that I will do a handshake with her again next time.
Remember the tickets we split before? Yep, it’s my time for a handshake with Dhike. She really looks like a Disney princess with her outfit that I naturally said, “What is this, Beauty and the Beast?” out loud when I entered the booth. And yes, I said that in English….weird me. But I swear, if Belle is an Asian with blue gown, it will be Dhike.
Nothing extra ordinary happened here, Dhike is pretty passive in terms of communication, and she will play along with whatever we threw at her. So yeah, it ended with a high-five when I leave the booth. Oh and she did her handshake with stickers on her palm
While queuing with Shanito for Shania, I noticed that Shanito was getting incredibly flustered. Apparently, Shanito lost his handshake tickets with Shania. I tried to offer him mine, but he refused and said to me that he will search for it first. He failed to find it….Hopefully he will make it to the next handshake event! I will also prepare more tickets to prevents something like this happened again in the future as my guess is that he rejected my offer due to me only having two Shan’s tickets.
With Shan herself, there’s really nothing big going on. We just say our hi at each other, gave her the special message from Pipu written on a piece of paper, and that’s it. I’m not really that good with communication, so yeah.
Announcement
Since I don’t pay much attention to what happens on stage while the handshake event is ongoing with RHKilis and Wotaliano working together exceptionally well for live reporting on Twitter, I’ll keep this section short to the main event aka the announcements.

Things to Note
The handshake this time have a really much better flow compared to the previous one. Everything is on time and the queue time is so much better now. Me, personally, got almost nothing to complain to the officials this time. But there are indeed some things that friends of mine complained and needs to be addressed immediately.
Privacy Matters
There’s almost no concern for the fans privacy in the name of job by taking their pictures inside the booth while the handshake session is in motion. I know exactly how some of my foreign friends would felt if someone just barged in into the booth and started taking pictures of them while handshaking without any permission at all.
Well, of course, this can’t be applied to everyone attending the event. For an example, I’m okay with my pictures taken while I’m handshaking with the members as I don’t really care whatsoever, while others may not, and finds this activity by the officials offensive. So I think it will be much better if they ask for permission first before the handshake session begun. Or at least, listen to the plead of the fans to stop taking pictures instead of brushing them aside, again, in the name of “job”.
It is one thing to do it without any malice intention, but it is another thing to keep on doing it even after a plead was given.
Air Conditioner
Simply put: IT WAS EXCRUCIATINGLY HOT!
There were some rotating electric fans available there and it shows their dedication to ensure that the fans will got the comfort they needed in terms of temperature. But alas, as the nights getting closer, some of the rotating electric fans just stopped working.
I suspect airflow is the main problem for the hot temperature as it was very crowded that no matter how much rotating electric fans they put there, it won’t really help with the temperature.
Airflow due to the growing number of fans will become their main challenge for the next handshake event. It will be one of the hardest thing to tackle especially if we consider the geography of Indonesia.
The Fans
Trash
Seriously guys, stop throwing away your garbage inside the venue. The officials did their best by hiring people to collect the trash but it will be back to us, the fans, to keep the venue clean.
Thankfully, there are some fans who had the initiative to help cleaned the venue after the event is over. The officials tweeted it and it was a great move by the officials to tweet that kind of thing to help increase the fans awareness of the trash problem. Kudos to the social media staff behind the official twitter account for doing this.
And those fans who helped cleaned the venue? You guys are the unsung heroes of that day.
Vandalism
Okay, I understand that the age range of JKT48 main fans are those teenagers with the not yet stable hormonal balance. But there’s got to be a limit of self awareness not to destroy everything you see in the name of “being cool”
One of our readers emailed me this picture to show how much damage has been done to one of the sponsors banner:
I don’t know what the hashtag means there, but I suspect it being a community name or something?
Conclusion
To close my story, this is the best handshake event so far. The members and the officials did all the best they can to ensure the fans came home with a happy face. It is still not flawless with some concern in privacy, but they have addressed almost all things that the fans complained from the previous event. The handshake event is so much better this time around that made all of our guests wants to directly said their thanks and some of their testimonials to the person who we believe made all this changes possible, Kato Mifumi-san. You and your staffs did a great job that day, ma’am.
Oh one more thing, almost all of the outsourced staffs working on the ticketing line now smiled back at you when you smiled at them!
Thank you Japarta, Mt. Joss, Da-Chi, Mr. Yokohama, CleaningStaff, Mr. TwinTail, Mr. Bangkok, Shanito, RHKilis, Arman, Febry, RedRanger, djt, Pitra, Mario, Richard, Ryand, Adit, Gala, Pipu, Enrico, Ibay, Rangga, Adi, Hasta, Rendy, Asep, Everyone I met that day! I’m really looking forward to the next handshake event!
Hope i can join in the next Handshake Festival
But i’m affraid i can’t speak to everyone because my english is bad
Don’t worry about that , most of us can speak in fluent Indonesian also.
A really good article as expected from my favorite author in this website.
Anyway,
“Their sixth single will be “Gingham Check”. Another year goes by with no original single, yet.”
People who are really expecting original song for JKT48 next single must have believed in these things:
– Aki-P does speak Indonesian language very fluently to the point of being able to write lyrics in the language or
– Despite his hectic and fixed schedule in writing new songs for 4 JPN48 and Nogi46 (not to mention for other musician too if there’s any) and other activities unrelated to song-writing, he still has enough time and will to learn Indonesian language and has full support from other stakeholders in AKS to produce original song for JKT48 and or
– SNH48 would not ask for an original song if JKT48 got one from Aki-p. If SNH48 also asked for one, Aki-p still has enough time and will to learn Chinese and would also have full support from other stakeholders in AKS to produce original song for SNH48 and or
– Producing original song for JKT48 is more economical than just the current method of translating released works of his and co.
Rather than learning on how to speak Indonesian and Chinese, why not reverse the process instead per say, once every 3 year?
– Make a song for JPN 48
– Ask someone to translate it to Indonesian
– Release it first and label it as “JKT48 original single”
– Re-release it a few months later as one of the coupling single for either one of the JPN 48 group
– ???
– Profit
I’m sure the heck of the fans who wishes for original single won’t complain and won’t know a single bit that the song actually is not intended for JKT48 but just a relabel to satisfy them
Well, that is just what I’m thinking if I’m looking it both from the customer service and business perspective. To make as much profit as I can without sacrificing too much.
EDIT :
I know I’m an ass for saying that, but yeah, we live in a world where relabelling/rebranding a product really does take into accounts in terms of consumer brand satisfaction. Ex: Corsair hi-end PSU’s line and SeaSonic. All of Corsair fans will be happy with a new line of PSU while in fact, some of them is just a repackaged SeaSonic who will in turn release their own product with the same inside structure a few months later.
this is brilliant!
…but the translation must sounds really natural, or else, all will know that originally it’s just another translated japanese song
so no…”jadilah batu yg berputar”
<-- So true
Nice HS from all of our guests , I like it.
Meanwhile, It just bad HS for me, my mood had crumbled since the first day hahaha..
Still, happy to meet you all!
So, even Bro Yamada have his own fan base now?? :the man::the man:
Very nice article, I always enjoy reading Jadilah Nekad FR. I attended the HS event and have the same experience, this is the best managed HS event so far, the only negative points are trash (but this one I’m not blaming the officials, as you said they have did their part and now up to us the fans to make it happen) the other negative points is also came from the fans such as vandalism and too many people sitting inside the venue (and even some was sleeping) that makes us difficult to walk.
Regarding the smiling officials, yes, they are smiling and polite (in some session even Mifumi herself is the one who’s handling the CD selling), even when I bought OTS HS ticket they say sorry when the CD is no more and I have to get it at the theater.
Well, to be honest, I’m one of those who sat down when the girls dancing on stage during the mini live show at night . My bad, no excuse for me. I’ll try to stand up in the next HS when the girls are on stage during the mini live show
hai, i saw some of japanese fans when queing for haruka in 4th session. I want to say hi to them but affraid to do it because dont know their name.
angga could you give their name in the photo groups so next time i can say hi to them.
for the trash problem, members in kaskus seems wan to do social responsiblity project for the next HS event by making trash care project team
one other problem in the HS event that need to dissapear are the fand who slept and sit in large groups that hinder other fans when walking inside venue.
.
Well, I’m not sure if I can give all of their name in a public place like this. But uhm, the one with the towel? You can call him Da-Chi san if you would like . Japarta is there too, but due to some circumstances, we have to censored his face using the LINE sticker .
The bespectacled one on the right wearing white clothing, you may call him CleaningStaff-san, he will understand that you address him. While the other one with Japan national men jersey without towel, you can call him Mt.Joss-san or just screamed Ginza48-san and he will understood
As the rest of them here, I used a makeshift nicknames on the article as I know them only by their real name.
Ha! I met with Da-chi san and Mt. Joss-san when I queued on the 1st session of Ve! They are a nice guy, really :)) They were also took some photos with my friend who wearing Veranda Sketsa Oshi’s t-shirt. Pls send my best regards for them!
I have a suggestion for the next Jadilah Nekat event, there is Galeri Indonesia Kaya located in Grand Indonesia East Wing level 8, next to Blitz Megaplex. It is the place where they can experience Indonesia’s culture digitally. The GIK also have some cultural shows in Saturday and Sunday at 3pm. The best part is, you can enjoy all of this for free! Maybe you want to check their website in http://www.indonesiakaya.com/galeri-indonesia-kaya :))
Thanks for the suggestion. We’ll consider it for future gatherings.
