A letter of appreciation from The Minister of MEXT to Mr. Akimoto. “KFC” supports studying abroad.
On February 25th, Mr. Akimoto Yasushi, who is a songwriter and the general producer of AKB48, was given a letter of appreciation from Shimomura Hirofumi, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Since Mr. Akimoto cooperated in the campaign of “Tobitate! Ryugaku JAPAN (Fly away! Study in Japan)” which promoted by MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and AKB members appeared as a volunteer on its related events; MEXT showed their gratitude to him.
Mr. Akimoto visited the minister’s office, and introduced an episode of Nakagawa Haruka, who is joining Indonesian idol group JKT48 from AKB. “She went there without any information about Indonesia, but after 1 year she reached the level that she has no trouble in everyday conversation and she is enjoying different cultures. Now, she sometimes performs as the center member of JKT48, and so popular with her appearances in 7 CMs there. The challenging spirit – to visit and to try first– is quite important” he said.
Mr. Akimoto wrote the lyrics for “Tobitate! Fortune Cookie” which is a parody song of AKB’s hit song “Koisuru Fortune Cookie” to support students studying abroad. A Video in which AKB members and students all over Japan dance with the song was produced, and it became so popular as played about 400,000 times in 5 days after being uploaded on YouTube.
