Why You Should Watch JKT48 Theater

As we all know, that AKB48 begins with the theater show. In this theater AKB48 members can interact with the fans closely, in accordance with the concept that they carry : the Idol that you can meet. In line with the course of time, AKB48 also began issuing CD Single. Then members is greatly increased, sub-units here and there, then comes the term of “Senbatsu, Undergirl, etc”.
However AKB management separated the songs for theater and songs for Singles. Single is more to mainstream songs, while theater songs being more to fans.
なぜJKT48劇場を見るべきなのか？
よく知られているように、AKB48は劇場とともに始まった。この劇場で、AKB48のメンバーは彼等の標榜する「会いにいけるアイドル」のコンセプトに従ってファンと近しく交流することが出来る。
その後しばらくたってから、AKB48はＣＤシングルを発売。そしてメンバーは増えサブユニットが出来、“選抜”とか“アンダーガールズ”などの時代に至ったのだ。しかしAKB48のマネージメントは劇場で歌う楽曲とＣＤシングルの楽曲を分けてきた。シングルはもっとメインストリーム寄りの曲で、一方劇場用の曲はもっとファンを意識している。
When I like AKB48 for the first time, I did not like the theater songs, or commonly referred to as stage songs. Tried a few times to enjoy AKB48 theater songs through YouTube but still only a small part that I like. And it was because the song was released as a singles.
JKT48 finally emerged. For their debut, they sing AKB48 single that were quite famous. They sang it with the Indonesian language. At that time I said,
“OK, their vocal is good, better than AKB48. But there was something missing, unlike AKB48, JKT48 lack the soul.”
That what crossed my mind when I heard the song Heavy Rotation JKT48 version. Plus the song translated into Indonesian, making it sounds like anime songs played on Indonesian TV station (being dubbed and all).
Finally, six months after JKT48 formed, in May 2012, they debuted their temporary theater. At that time I already accept JKT48 a little bit, because it turns out they’re getting better and better and begin to fill the soul to every song they sang.
Honestly, for this theater announcements, I was not interested at that time. Why? as I described above, I could not enjoy AKB48 theater songs. Logically, if I am not interested in AKB48 stage songs, then how can I be interested in JKT48 theater songs ? OK, so I missed the premiere theater. Then I started reading the comments from people who went to the theater, it was full of positive comments. At that moment I thought,
“OK, maybe it’s due to the set list is a good one or maybe I missed to see the AKB48 version“.
I found out that the repertoire used by JKT48 at that time was B3. On that set list I already like Shonichi and Temodemo no Namida. I replayed all B3 set list from YouTube. The results were as predicted, still less attractive compared to their singles for me personally.
The following month, JKT48 once again held the temporary theater. at that moment I thought,
“Maybe it never hurts to watch the theater, it only cost me Rp 50,000 (Approx. 4.5 USD)“.
I decided to try, but since the ticket purchasing system was not good, in the end I was being discouraged to buy it. The following month, JKT48 held a theater again, same result, failed to buy a ticket.
Finally the month of September, JKT48 opened their permanent theater, with ticket purchasing system “similar” as AKB48. Since the theater location is close to where I work and my home, I was very excited to try to watch it. Then I tried to send an email to every JKT48 show. No luck. I wonder why I’m having such a tough luck, it turned out, I have an error when sending email. Then I fixed my mistake, and sent the email again.
This time I finally managed to get the reply, though just the ticket for standing area.
21 September 2012, I finally got to watch JKT48 in the theater directly. The repertoire is still B3 Pajama Drive, with all of the songs translated into Indonesian. At that time I did not expect much, I just wanted to know how it feels to be a part of the audience in the JKT48 theater. So I got my first impression of
“Oh No, I have to stand for 2.5 hours, am I strong enough? this will definitely exhaust me, maybe this is a bad decision to watch this show.“.
With all the negativity in minds, I watched my first theater. Kage-ana began announcing the rules. Soon finally Overture, followed by Shonichi, Hissatsu Teleport, Gokigen no Mermaid, Futari Nori no Jitensha. As a result, I didn’t even realize that my eyes were watery. It turned out beyond my expectations, so far the songs that I underestimate turn out to be really incredible because of the theater effect.
I was getting excited, then continued with the introduction of the members who perform. Then the show continued with the unit song, Tenshi no Shippo, Pajama Drive, Junjou Shugi, Temodemo no Namida, Kagami no naka no Jean D’Arc and so on until the end of time 2.5 hours, without me feeling tired at all. And at that moment I realized this was apparently the heart of 48 sisters, theatrical performances.
Since then, I want to go back to the theater again and again. And it turns out the theater song was THAT good. I realized that there is this difference between singles and theater songs. Singles were more towards easy going, love it fast, but then get bored quickly type of songs. Theater songs were the songs that you really should start listening to by watching the theater, and then more and more fun to listen to as time goes by.
So if you are a fans of JKT48 or AKB48, but you’ve never seen the theater show, you may regret it for the rest of your life. Try to take the time to see the show at the same time face to face with your Oshimen. There you can support them directly, and the show is not bad at all. They’re not perfect, but they keep trying to perform the best. So, see you at JKT48 theater.
AKB48を好きになった当初、私は劇場用の曲、いわゆるステージソングは好きではなかった。YouTubeで何度か聞いたことはあるものの、好きになることはなかった。私の興味はシングル・リリースされた曲に相変わらず止まっていたのである。
そしてJKT48が出現した。デビューはAKB48の大変有名なシングル曲。彼女たちはインドネシア語で歌った。その時わたしは言ったものだ。
「ＯＫ，ボーカルはいい、AKB48よりもね。でも何か足りないな。AKB48に比べたらソウルが欠落している」それがJKT48版ヘビーローテーションを聞いたときに思ったことだ。さらに言えば、インドネシア語に訳された歌は、まるで吹き替え版のアニメソングように聞こえた。
JKT48の結成から半年がたった今年の５月、ついに仮設劇場が始まった。その時には、私はJKT48を少しではあるが受け入れ始めていた。彼女たちはどんどんよくなっていたし、どの歌にも魂がこもりはじめていた。
正直に言うと、劇場の件が発表された時も私は大して興味を惹かれなかった。理由は先に書いたように、AKB48の劇場用の歌を好きになれなかったからだ。理屈から言っても、AKB48のステージソングに興味がなくて、どうしてJKT48のそれに興味を持てるのか？だから最初の公演を見逃すことになったのだ。
しかし、劇場に行った連中のコメントを読んでみると、全部ポジティブな感想ばかりだった。その時も私は思った。
「ＯＫ，セットリストはよかったようだな。たぶんAKB48版で見逃していた歌があるんだろう」
JKT48が演じたセットリストはＢ３だということを知っていたし、その中では「初日」と「てもでもの涙」は気に入っていた。そこでYouTubeでセットリストＢ３を聴き直してみたが、予想通りシングル曲に比べるとやはり私には魅力に乏しいように思えた。
何ヶ月かたって、JKT48は再び仮設劇場の公演を始めた。ようやく私は考えた。
「劇場を見に行くのも悪くないかも。入場料も５万ルピー（約５００円）だし」
そうして心を決めたものの、チケット予約システムが良くなくて、結局あきらめてしまった。その後も、公演があるたび何度かトライしたが結果は同じで、チケットを入手することは出来なかった。
９月になってついにJKT48専用劇場がオープンし、チケット予約システムも本家と近いものになった。劇場の場所も勤め先や自宅と近かったので、見たい気持ちが強まり片っ端からチケットをメールで申し込むものの、ことごとく外れた。あまりに外れるでよくよく考えてみたら、メール送信方法にミスがあったことにようやく気がつき、改めてトライ。結果、ようやく返事をもらった。席は立見席だったけれど。
９月２１日、ついに私はJKT48劇場をこの目で見ることになった。レパートリーはＢ３のままだが、歌詞は全部インドネシア語に訳されていた。その時でもまだ私は大して期待はしていなくて、劇場の観客に混じったらどんな感じだろう、くらいの気持ちだった。まず最初に思ったことは、
「勘弁してくれよ、２時間半も立ちっぱなしかよ。これは滅茶疲れるぞ、やっぱり止めとけばよかったかな」だった。
そんな気乗りしない気持ちで開演を待った。“カゲ・アナ”が観賞上の注意をアナウンスした後、ついにショーは始まった。初日、必殺テレポート、ご機嫌ななめのマーメイド、二人乗りの自転車…、それは自分の目が潤んでいることさえ気づかないほど、はるかに想像を超えた体験だった。
それまで過小評価していた歌が劇場で聴いた途端、信じられないほど素晴らしいものに変わったのだ。私は興奮した。演ずるメンバー自身による曲の意味の紹介とともに、ユニットソングが続く。天使のしっぽ、パジャマ・ドライブ、純情主義、てもでもの涙、鏡の中のジャンヌ・ダルク…、２時間半の間、退屈する暇は全くなかった。劇場公演こそが48グループの真髄だと知った瞬間だった。
あの日以来、何度も劇場に足を運んでいる。劇場用の楽曲も好きになったし、シングルと劇場用楽曲の違いも分かるようになった。シングル曲はイージーゴーイング、すぐに気に入るけれど飽きるのも早い。劇場用の楽曲は、劇場で聴いた時からどんどん好きになっていく歌。
あなたがJKT48やAKB48のファンで、もしまだ劇場に行ったことがないなら、それは絶対にもったいない。時間を作ってぜひショーに足を運び、自分の推しメンと直に対面すべきだ。直接声援が出来るし、ショーは絶対に気に入るはずだ。彼女たちは完璧じゃない、でもベストを尽くそうと頑張っているのた。

On July I went to Jakarta just to watch JKT theater for the first time, and I really really enjoyed their performance. Although, the girls should improve their MC skills.
