JKT48 3rd Generation: First Shows, First Impressions

Last Saturday, JKT48 3rd Generation started their debut at JKT48 Theater, with the nostalgic repertoar, “Pajama Drive”. The members are split into two teams, Merah and Putih (Red and White), with one member performed in both sides. I got a chance, not only to watch their Shonichi, but the first four shows of them last Saturday and Sunday. I’ll try to share my first impression about them. This is my personal views though, so I’m sorry if it’s biased.
First: Are they better than their seniors yet?
NO. At least not yet. Their dance steps were full of mistakes, their eyes are still full of doubt and hesitation, and their MC are still sloppy and nervous. There are some potentials here and there and they still have a big room for improvement.
At the first day, I was excited because of the nostalgic matter and what not, but not during the second day. I was sleepy, their performances aren’t really that great to even remotely attract me. Even K3’s notoriously boring MCs was better (Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of theirs. But yeah, K3 MCs are -sometimes- awful)
Team Merah (Red Team)
The first show (Saturday Afternoon) of The Red Team was still full of mistakes here and there, but the second show (Sunday Night) was better. Milenia and Elaine was plotted as the Ace (each got Yukirin’s and Mayuyu’s position respectively). The formation was:
Tenshi no Shippo: Grace (center), Gracia and Feni
(Grace was subbed by Angel from White Team on the second show due to health related problem)
I can’t really comment much on this unit since Grace was not in her best condition. Feni’s dance was kinda okay but her face still show some nervousness. Gracia, while looks really cute in those pinky outfits, still got that stiff dance moves.
Pajama Drive: Elaine (center), Okta and Anin
Elaine aces the song. While it’s not Shanju’s/Ayen’s level of awesomeness yet, Elaine has the potential to match them. Okta, the tallest girl in that team, needs to see the audiences often and practice with her expression. Anin was just OK and still able to match her two partners on stage.
Junjou Shugi: Manda (center), Tya and Farin
Manda and Tya gave something new to Junjou Shugi. Their dances and vibes are kinda different than your usual Idol-style dance. It’s good, but it’s just different, I can’t make it into words. Meanwhile, Farin has a lot to catch up to her two partners.
Temodemo no Namida: Milenia and Shani
Milenia gave the presence of Melody, but minus the confidence. Her eyes looked worried most of the time, maybe she was nervous? well she needs to fix that in the future. Shani fits the song but she still need to look at the audiences more.
Kagami no Naka no Jeanne d’Arc: Cesen (center), Aurel, Chika, Desy and Sofia
Standard. Not bad, just standard. Sorry girls, maybe next time.
I’m surprised at Tya’s ability to control the flow of MC. It looks like she has experiences for this kinda thing. Tya and Chika were able to maintained the MC part, especially after Kiss Shite son Shicatta.
Desy, who was a JKT48 wota -attending HS events and such- was quite popular, especially with her “ngapak” accent. She’s like Nogizaka’s Ito Karin who was a wota too. Her bantering with Chika (She uses “ngapak” Javanese and Chika uses Sundanese) was my favorite moment of the day. [TN: Ngapak Javanese accent is a very thick south-westerners Javanese accent]
Grace was exceptional. On the Shonichi day, she was actually sick. During “Boku no Sakura”, she hold her chest and looks like she’s going to faint. A senior staff then go to the side of the stage, persuading her to return to backstage, but she keeps standing on the stage until the end of the song.
Team Putih (White Team)
I watched their first show (Saturday Night) full-packed by fans (and their seniors watching from FOH) while on the second show (Sunday Afternoon), I got it via Waiting List but still managed to get the second row of seating. Andela and Michelle got Yukirin’s and Mayu’s positions respectively. Here was the formation:
Tenshi no Shippo: Angel (center), Nina and Zebi
A nicely performed Tenshippo. Angel is still nervous, but perform well. Zebi was cute and do okay. But the one who stole my attention was Nina. With her tall and slender figure she really looks like Rena, from the twin-antennae hair style to her style of dancing.
Pajama Drive: Michelle (center), Farina and Kezia
One of the weakest unit of this team. Michelle was the center, so she should lead the unit, but she herself looked so confused. Farina and Kezia also looks confused, which made their movements scrambled. Their dance was getting better on the second show, so I hope they will get better from time to time.
Junjou Shugi: Nadse (center), Cia and Stefi
Nadse was gorgeous in the red dress, seriously. But her dance was not really good. She looks really out of place. And she rarely looks at the audience. Cia saves the act, her dance was good. Stefi was okay, she needs to practice more and she will be good.
Temodemo no Namida: Andela and Yukka
Andela was an angel. Andela and Yukka was a good combination. But sometimes Andela forgot that Temodemo was a duet, she needs to practice more with Yukka. But overall, Good.
Kagami no Naka no Jeanne d’Arc: Sisca (center), Indah, Chika, Anggie and Afa
Sisca aka. Nabilah Doppelganger was good. Not Kinal’s level of good of course. Chika’s dance ability amused me. I personally think her dance was better than anyone in her position (Cleopatra/Mova/Rica/Nichan/Lidya). The rest still need to practice more.
Without someone like Tya who flawlessly control the flow in the Red Team as her partner this time, Chika struggles working alone in controlling the MC flow. More or less she tried, but the result was just okay. Anggie was really nervous that she almost forgot her catchphrases on the second show.
If the Red team has Desy as the “ngapak” ambassador, Andela was the medok queen. She has fewer instances to speak since she was in Yukirin’s position, but still, hearing her speak is one of the most awaited moment of the show. [TN: Medok is a very thick middle to eastern Javanese accent]
Chika as the only one serving both teams are awesome. It’s like she is a tiny Energizer’s Rabbit who has extra strength and stamina to go another round.
Conclusion
Overall both teams are still in the early stages of being an Idol. They really need to improve everything. They need to choose their expression that fits the song (well, it’s weird to perform a sad song while smiling ear to ear). And they need to remember that there are people who are watching in front of them. They need to engage with the audience more, rather than worryingly staring at the staffs or their seniors watching from FOH. And uh..can you girls please stop staring at the ceilings?
For the first four shows (Two Red shows and Two White shows), I personally think it’s a tie. The Red Team has Elaine as the best player but each other members has a chance to show their ability, so there’s no one get overpowered but they’re still give us a very sloppy performance. Meanwhile, the White team was really too depended on Andela, but their performance was really neat (except Pajama Drive unit on the first day) which makes it more enjoyable.
So, who are my favorite members? I can’t tell you, but I can give you a hint.

先週土曜日、JKT48の3期生がなつかしのセトリ｢パジャマドライブ｣でJKT48劇場デビューを果たした。メンバーは赤組・白組の2チームに別かれ、一人のメンバーが両チーム兼任である。僕は彼女たちの初日だけでなく、船出となる土日の4つの公演全てを観るというチャンスを得た。彼女たちに対する僕の印象を述べようと思う。あくまで個人的な視点のため、偏った見方があれば容赦してほしい。
最初に：3期生は先輩たちよりも良い出来か？
ノーだ。少なくとも｢まだ｣。ダンスのステップは間違いが多く、彼女たちの瞳はこれで合ってるかな？という疑問と躊躇でいっぱい、MCはまだ締りが無く緊張していた。ポツポツとポテンシャルがある子がいたが、まだ大きな改善の余地がある。
1日目、僕は懐かしさでワクワクした。でも2日目にはそんなことはなかった。公演はこれっぽっちも僕を惹きつけるものじゃなく、眠くなった。K3のおそろしく退屈なMCを聞いてた方がまだマシだ。（誤解の無いように言っておくが、僕はK3ファンだよ。でもなぁ、K3のMCは時々どうしようもないことがあるんだ。）
赤組
赤組の最初の公演（土曜・昼）は、あちこち間違いだらけだった。しかし、2回目の公演（土曜・夜）はマシだった。ミレニアとエレインがエースの位置（それぞれゆきりんとまゆゆの位置）についた。フォーメーションは、
天使のしっぽ：グレース（センター）、グラシア、フェニ
グレースがベストコンディションではなかった（グレースの体調の問題で、夜公演は白チームのエンジェルが代わりに入った）ので、このユニットソングについてはあまりコメントできない。フェニのダンスはとても良かったが、彼女の顔にはまだいくらか緊張が見えた。女の子っぽくってホントにかわいいいグラシアは、まだダンスの動きが硬かった。
パジャマドライブ：エレイン（センター）、オクタ、アニン
エレインがこの曲のセンター。まだシャンジュやアエンのすばらしいレベルではないが、エレインはそれに匹敵するポテンシャルを持っている。このチームで一番背の高いオクタは、観客の方をよく見る事と表現を練習する必要がある。アニンはOKで、ステージ上のパートナー二人に合わせることができた。
純情主義：マンダ（センター）、ティヤ、ファリン
マンダとティヤは純情主義に新しい何かを吹き込んだ。彼女たちのダンスと雰囲気は、みんなが見慣れたアイドル･スタイルのダンスとはかなり違うものだ。いい、しかし（これまで見慣れたものと）違いがある。それを言葉で表すことができないんだ。一方で、ファリンはパートナー二人に追いつかなくてはならない部分がたくさんある。
てもでもの涙：ミレニア、シャニ
ミレニアはメロディのような存在感があった。しかし、自信面はマイナス。曲の間ずっと彼女の瞳は不安気に見えた。緊張してたかな？今後は彼女はそこを修正する必要がある。シャニは曲にぴったりだが、もっと観客の方を見なければならない。
鏡の中のジャンヌダルク：チェセン（センター）、オウレル、チカ、デシー、ソフィア
スタンダード。悪くない、ただスタンダード。ごめんね、次回また。
僕はティヤがMCの流れを仕切る能力に驚いた。その経験があるように見えた。ティヤとチカはMCセッション、特にキスして損しちゃったの後（のMCを）をやってのけた。
JKT48ヲタ（握手会などに参加）だったデシーは、その｢ンガパッ(ク)訛り｣で人気がある。やはりヲタだった乃木坂46の伊藤かりんのようだ。チカとの早口会話（デシーはジャワのンガパッ訛り、チカはスンダ訛りで話した）はこの日僕が気に入った場面だった。
＊ジャワのンガパッ(ク)訛り：南～西ジャワの訛り
グレースは除外する。初日、彼女は明らかに具合が悪かった。｢僕の桜｣の最中、彼女は胸を押さえて気を失いそうだった。ベテランスタッフがステージ脇に行き、彼女に楽屋に戻るよう説得したが、彼女は曲の終わりまでステージに立ち続けた。
白組
ファンで満員の（彼女たちの先輩メンバーもオペレーション・ブースから観ていた）最初の公演（土曜・夜）を観た。2回目の公演（日曜・昼）は僕はウェイティングリストだったが、なんとか2列目に座れた。アンデラとミシェルがそれぞれゆきりんとまゆゆのポジションだった。以下がフォーメーションだ。
天使のしっぽ：エンジェル（センター）、ニナ、ゼビ
いいパフォの天使のしっぽだ。エンジェルはまだ緊張、でも上手にパフォした。ゼビはかわいくて、パフォもOK。しかし、僕の目を引いたのはニナだった。背が高くて細身の彼女は、二本の触覚ヘアからダンススタイルまでほんとうにレナそっくり。
パジャマドライブ：ミシェル（センター）、ファリナ、ケジア
このチームで最も弱いユニットの一つだ。ミシェルはセンターなのでユニットをリードしなくてはならないが、彼女自身が混乱しているように見えた。ファリナとケジアも混乱したことで、ごちゃごちゃになった。2回目の公演ではダンスが良くなった。なので、時とともに良くなることを期待する。
純情主義：ナッツ(センター)、チア、ステフィ
ナッツは赤いドレスでゴージャス、いやマジで。でもダンスはそんなに良くなかった。場違いに見えた。観客の方にもめったに視線をくれない。チアは役割を果たし、ダンスは良かった。ステフィはOK、もっと練習が必要だがうまくなるだろう。
てもでもの涙：アンデラ、ユッカ
アンデラは天使だった。アンデラとユッカのコンビネーションはいい。でも時々アンデラはてもでもがデュエットってことを忘れている。ユッカと一緒にもっと練習する必要がある。でも全体的には良かった。
鏡の中のジャンヌダルク：シスカ（センター）、インダー、チカ、アンジー、アファ
ナビラの分身として知られるシスカは良かった。もちろんキナルほどの良さではないが。チカのダンス能力は僕を楽しませてくれた。個人的には、彼女のダンスはこのポジションにいた誰（クレオ、モファ、リカ、ニーチャン、リディア）よりもいい。他の子達はまだ練習が必要だ。
チカは、赤チーム公演ではパートナーとして器用にMCの流れを仕切ったTyaのような子が今回いなかったので、MCの流れを仕切ろうと一人で奮闘した。いくぶん疲れたようだが、結果はOK。アンジーは2回目の公演で、自分のキャッチフレーズをほとんど忘れるくらい緊張していた。
赤組に｢ンガパッ(ク)｣大使としてデシーがいるなら、アンデラは（白組の）｢ムドッ(ク)｣女王だ。アンデラはゆきりんポジなのでMCのチャンスが比較的少ないが、彼女の話を聞くのがこの公演で一番待ち遠しかった。

ただ一人両チームにまたがったチカはすばらしかった。彼女はもう一公演いけちゃうくらい超絶な強さとスタミナを持っている小柄なエナジャイザー・バニーのようだ。
まとめ
全体的に両チームともまだまだアイドルの初期段階だ。何もかも本当に改善しなければならない。歌に合った表現を選ぶ必要がある（悲しい曲なのに満面の笑みってのはヘンだ）。そして、彼女たちは目の前に観ている人たちがいるってことを忘れちゃいけない。心配げにスタッフやオペレーション・ブースから観ている先輩の方を見るより、もっと観客を惹きつける必要がある。それとねぇ・・・（研究生の）みんな、天井を見るのはやめてもらえるかい？
最初の４公演（赤組2回、白組2回）について、個人的には引き分けだと思う。赤組にはベストパフォーマーのエレインがいるが、他のメンバーもそれぞれが能力の見せ場があった。圧倒する子はいなかったが、メリハリの無いパフォを見せた。一方、白組はほんとうにアンデラに頼り過ぎだった。しかし、彼女たちのパフォは整っていた（初日のパジャマドライブ以外は）ので楽しく見えた。
さて、誰が僕のお気に入りメンバーか？言えないねぇ、でもヒントを出そう。
