The Birth of a Series?
The Nippo-Indonesian Tokusatsu TV show “Bima Satria Garuda” (Garuda Knight Bima)-transmitted by TV channel RCTI- is prospected to become a series. Ever since it started airing in June, its ratings have been equal to the long-running anime “Doraemon”, and have gathered enough support from the young Indonesian audience to exceed the ratings of popular series such as “Pokemon” or “Dragon Ball”.
From then on every Sunday morning BIMA kept transmitting the values of justice, friendship and love towards one’s family. After it started airing the ratings reached 2,5%, and rose up to 20% of all 11 TV channels.
Pokemon and Dragon Ball were overcome as well, and eventually Doraemon was reached, series which has been on air for 24 years in Indonesia; the ratings doubled “Kamen Rider”‘s, on air in the same time slot on another channel. On the 14th the last shooting of 2013 will be concluded, and the last 26th episode will be aired next month.
BIMA is fruit of the collaboration of Ishimori Productions, which worked on the “Kamen Rider” series, and Indonesia’s biggest media conglomerate MNC (Media Nusantara Citra). Bandai handles the sale of toys and other related goods, Itochu Indonesia manages the license; it started as a new business model, consisting into a comprehensive development of contents.
According to Mr. Goto Masayuki of Itochu Indonesia, in the beginning a director, cameraman and stuntman from Ishimori Production joined the shooting, but their numbers gradually increased and eventually became 7. Indonesian staff would always stay beside Japanese members, thus keeping a strong collaboration in the production. The idea is to have Japanese staff transfer their Tokusatsu techniques and technology, so that the series will be created by Indonesian hands only in the future. The point is to not simply bring Japan’s Kamen Rider over but to completely localize the show, and create a hero that Indonesian children can get attached to as much as possible.
Shootings are done around Monas (Independence tower), Taman Mini and other tourist spots or popular places among the local population that Jakarta offers. The proper screen-time is given to full-blown action and transformation sequences; the staff exhausted its resources in order to create a hero who would transform into the fire-clad Sacred Bird Garuda to rout his enemies. Mr Goto added that “On Sunday morning, wake up early and watch BIMA. I wish the series continues until this becomes a habit for Indonesian children.”
JKT48 – Nakagawa Haruka appears too – On air November 17th on RCTI
Nakagawa Haruka, member of the idol group JKT48, will appear in the Nippo-Indonesian Tokusatsu Hero show “Bima Satria Garuda”. She will show a heated performance along with Indonesian actors.JKT48 member Stella Cornelia has been regularly appearing in BIMA, but it is the first time for a Japanese to appear in the series. Her role is of a young Japanese girl who escaped from the world of darkness ruled by Rasputin. Her character is set to become a “bridge of friendship between Indonesia and Japan”.
All lines are in Indonesian. It is the first time she faces such a challenge, even if her stay in Indonesia will reach 1 year next month. On stage she uses the language without problems talking to fans and other members, but in BIMA “I have many long lines, so I tried my hardest to remember them, with Stella teaching me.”
During the shooting too, differently from Japan where there may be many new people, she had already met most of the staff before, thus making it possible to act with more relax. She also reports watching Kamen Rider with her older sister when she was small.
“I never thought I could be in it. This chance happened thanks to being in Indonesia”, she said with her eyes sparkling.
She will appear in episode 21. The channel is RCTI, Sunday 17th, from 8:30 AM. The episode will be aired again Saturday 23 at 3:30 PM.

Yes yes yes. more local tokusatsu please.
To be honest, I think that the production quality still way below Japanese Kamen Rider, that said, it’s the first local tokusatsu series, so it’s still awesome!
I just hope that they cut of the CG/FX and focus more on the story. It’s just that, IMHO, we don’t have the skill (and budget for that matter) to produce a series with decent FX, the result is a series with cheesy FX. Last episode when Bima was flying to send the final blow is…well… For, again IMHO, that ruin the fun. How about making it grittier with real martial arts, less flashy moves and focus more on the stories, I don’t see any character development throughout the series. And my last rants would be,for every male cast…never ever touch Stella.
I found this blog, BSG fun fact!

Would they be interested in getting Gareth Evans or the stars/choreographers in The Raid: Redemption [Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian, etc.] in the team?
It’s possible… FYI Reino’s older sister is Gareth Evans’s wife
Really? Reino’s older sister is Gareth Evans’s wife?
Then, I hope they will make a movie like Majisuka Gakuen with Gareth Evans as the Direcotr, that will be epic..
Ya, you can read on wikipedia http://id.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reino_Barack
Yes, i agree with you. More mesmerizing stories, strong characters’ personality and less poor visual effects will be good. Don’t let Bima become one of Indo***r’s sinetrons with silly dragons, giant snakes, ridiculous fighting scenes ( Looks like everyone is trying to unleash such a thing like “Reppu-ken” to each other.) which are very very suck. Not only suck but only a fag and a piece of sh*t.
Gareth Evans as director? Yayan Ruhian or Iko Uwais in the cast? Then Bima will get “18+” or “Mature” Rating.
more blood, more cut the throat…reality action of kamen raider!Fantastic!!!perfecto.
Maybe they should make Roma Satria Bergitar as the next hero?
Some beardy strange dude, traveling in his rusty vespa, kickn bad dudes ass with his guitar of truth..while campaignin for next year election (vote me, all y’all shall be damned by this guitar of mineth!)
It can be preety awesome and stupid at the same time
When doing henshin, then what will happen to him? Tranform to a dangdut singer armed to the teeth? Play the guitar and the monster will do “Goyang Inul” or “Caisar dance” before it’s exploding? Jesus…..Shotaro Ishimori’ll rise from his grave if that really happen.
dude, he’s already at henshin state since the beginning
some beardy dude, from whatever world, suddenly appears to the polluted and crooked city of Jakarta, to banish evil (intentionally) and sometimes innocent civillian (accidentally, so it will be more dramatic )
and after going postal against the bad dudes, he turn his back against the villain while playing his guitar, then BOOM!! all the bad dudes explode (as superhero movies oftenly shows us), with the final awesome word; T E H R L A L U
what could be more bad ass than that?
It’s feels like recall old memories
i fall in love with “kesatria baja hitam”
and now my nephew really madly insane when it come to Bima
thank you for all the people that making this happen
you’ve been crated sweet memories for children in Indonesia
Now i’m begin to thinking the possibilities of somethng like JKT0048
