For me, I’m agree with Mr. Akimoto, need X factor to choose it,
beauty, attractive, charm is always needed,
but X-Factor always break other criteria on a second..
    Thats fact…

This essay explain everything that i feel about 48 girls…

Something that I firmly believe since I drown deeper into this fandom. I don’t think (some) popular members of 48 family is *that* cute. Well, I said this because I’m an oddball in my circle of friends. A lot of them really like Korean artist (which is really pretty, no doubt about that). At some point,d me and my friends argued that even the popular 48 group member cannot catch up to Korean girl band member in terms of physical appearance. Well, TBH, I do agree at some degree. Yeah sure you can say that everyone have their own taste, each to his own. But really, what I really want to say is…I think Taeyeon will be more easily received to be an idol compared to…let’s say Kawaei or Kaotan (okay, I admit, it’s rather extreme comparison, but you should get what I really mean right… :) )

That said, what make me really interested in 48 girls is that everyone of them have their own character, so even an “average looking” one can get really popular. As long as she has some talents and interesting character (that and a little bit of luck plus management support, but yeah…)

TBH, no one in the 3rd gen really caught my eyes…but hey, who cares. As soon as they enter the stage, show their talent, they might catch my attention.

I don’t have an oshimen in JKT48 (yet), actually I’m more a DD person. But you know what, now I kinda attracted to Jeje. Not because she’s pretty, but I think JKT48 needs that kind of baka-idol, someone who speaks nonsensical jokes, rather crude at times but cute nonetheless

TL;DR : yes, I agree. Appearance is just one of many factors. I’m inclined to believe that Idol need talent, know-how to please their fans, a bunch of luck, support from the management and many more unreasonable things.

Well, I repeated Statistics and barely passed with a “C”, so, this article is too hard to digest for my brain. Nice writing anyway.

i’m suggesting to do some qualitative approach for future research. Data from subjects interview and/or Focus Group Discussion would be great #soktau xDD

Thank you for everybody who spend their time to read and leave comments. Really appreciate it. Also, I can feel that some of you are bored and maybe don’t understand. The more bored you are, the more I’m happy, HAHAHAHAHAHA *evil laugh*

Basically I like your idea, humZ. Focus group discussion (and any fieldwork research, such as ethnography) would be interesting and I really want to do it someday, who knows maybe I will need your help 8)

Some people just like artificial beauty (plastic surgery) more than natural beauty. Or perhaps they just don’t care whether one is a fake or not.
